What You Need To Remember From The First Season Of Dear White People

In reality, a year has passed since the first season of Dear White People, but on the show, no time has passed for the students of Winchester College. Sam (Logan Browning) is still speaking her truth on her radio show, Dear White People. Lionel (DeRon Horton) is still breaking big stories. CoCo (Antoinette Robinson) is still plotting her way to the top.

Winchester, a fictional Ivy League institution, is still reeling from months of high-tension between Black and white students. The protests and town halls ultimately culminated in one massive change: Armstrong-Parker, the Black student housing on campus, is going to start accepting more non-Black students. This will have big ramifications for all the students who currently view Armstrong-Parker as their haven from an occasionally hostile campus environment.

As the stellar second season of Dear White People proves, the show continues to be a searingly intelligent and witty exploration of Blackness and race relations. If you're going to enjoy this season to the fullest, however, you should brush up on the main events of last season before you binge.
