Polka Dots Are Going Nowhere – These Are The Pieces To Shop Now

Polka dots are like a fashion boomerang; they always come back around. Often associated with '50s rockabilly and cultural icons like Rosie the Riveter and Minnie Mouse, the print is favoured for its vintage vibes and whimsical look. Despite their lengthy shelf life, polka dots have stood the test of time, enjoying a huge revival in the 1980s thanks to Princess Diana’s highly covetable wardrobe.
Now, polka dots are getting a modern makeover, with a new wave of designers choosing to showcase spots in their SS20 shows. Balenciaga made the case for polka dots with a selection of spotty sock boots, statement shirts and mini totes. Gucci leant into the vintage vibe, with Alessandro Michele championing daintier dots, while Dries Van Noten went big with a series of large monochromatic circles on trench coats and ruffle skirts.
The print has made appearances on the high street too, with & Other Stories, Alexachung and Zara leading the trend (who could forget that dress?). From statement sleeves to standout dresses, spotty prints are here to well and truly take over your wardrobe in 2020. Click through for our pick of the best pieces around.
